Nursery
Nursery (2 to 4 Years)
The Mount is home to our Nursery. It is a beautifully adapted listed building which provides our Nursery and Reception children with spacious, light and airy indoor facilities. Outside in the safety and natural surroundings of The Mount’s play area children enjoy excellent opportunities for outdoor learning and play.
Our highly qualified teaching staff and excellent pupil/adult ratios ensure quality curricular delivery and pastoral care within the Six Areas of Learning. Pupils can enter the Nursery in the term after their second birthday and transfer to Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.
Nursery Provision
Our youngest Nursery pupils have a special area dedicated to them called the Daisy Room. Children engage in a variety of activities including painting, chalk drawings, sand and water play, role play and enjoy a wide choice of toys, supervised by members of our Nursery Team. This area helps to build the confidence of our very youngest pupils who are just taking their first steps on their learning journey at Ockbrook School. Our older Nursery pupils have the use of 3 brightly coloured area in which to learn and play. Self-expression and themed role play encourages children to build their confidence in group and individual communication and play. Specialist teaching, which helps to develop skills in Music and French, begins in Early Years and continues through to Year Six.
The Nursery’s outdoor play area is fitted with a safety surface. Children have great fun playing inside the cottage, fairytale castle and wendy house, as well as on the two slides, a see-saw and an outdoor picnic table. A wonderful bright red train encourages children to climb aboard and there is a wide choice of bicycles, trikes, cars, prams and pushchairs. Two lovely wooden summer houses on the top playground, along with the twirly noughts and crosses on the wall, demonstrate the emphasis we place on encouraging learning through outdoor play. There are games painted on the safe rubber play surface so pupils look forward to playtimes everyday.
Children joining us in the Daisy Room can be in pull-ups whilst they are toilet training. The number of sessions each child does can be flexible to ensure a happy and secure start at Ockbrook School.
The older Nursery children (3+) attend every morning and there is flexibility of provision including mornings only, mornings with lunch, mornings with some afternoons and full time. A healthy, nutritious lunch is served to pupils staying all day, with the Nursery children eating in an airy and spacious conservatory area with the Nursery staff. Nursery funding is also available.
