Induction - Year 7
The Year 7 pupils begin their time in the senior department of Ockbrook School with an Induction Day, which takes place the day before the rest of the school returns. This is a time for the pupils to get to know each other and their form tutors before lessons start; it also gives the pupils opportunity to find their way around the school buildings without the general bustle of everyday school life going on around them.
During the Induction Day, the girls take part in several activities which involve discussions within small groups, supported by their Sixth Form ‘Buddies’. There is also a treasure hunt to help them find their way around the grounds and a picnic lunch where they can relax and chat outside with their new friends, weather permitting.
The induction process continues in the first weeks of the Autumn term, with Form Time activities that follow on from the Induction Day activities.
The most exciting part of the Year 7 Induction process culminates in a long weekend spent at Le Chateau du Broutel in France, where the girls participate in team-building exercises, encouraging new friendships. They start off the weekend with Chateau Olympics and move onto kayaking, canoeing and raft-building on the Chateau’s lake; they tackle an assault course and a climbing wall, followed by abseiling; and the less strenuous activities tackled include Initiative Exercises and archery.
