Sixth Form Cooking
Student cooking has proven to be very successful with Sixth Form students. It is a six week practical based course and is offered to both Year 12 and 13.
The main aim of the course is to provide the students with an opportunity to develop a range of useful cooking skills which they will hopefully find extremely beneficial when they go on to university or college.
A selection of the dishes included are homemade tomato sauce with pasta, chicken/quorn curry and rice, oatmeal and raisin cookies, spaghetti bolognese, chilli con carne, butternut squash soup, sweet chilli and vegetable stir fry noodles, margherita pizza, couscous salad and frittata. These dishes are often cheaper to make than bought ready made meals and are healthier and tastier!
Nutritional awareness, equipment choices, safety and hygiene are also topics covered throughout the course.
