Modern Languages
General information
· All pupils study French and German from Years 7 – 9.
· At the end of Year 9 all pupils must choose to continue with at least one of those languages as a GCSE subject. Alternatively, both of these languages may be studied to GCSE level.
· French and German are available as A Level options.
Visits abroad
All pupils in Years 7 - 13 are given the opportunity to further their skills by taking part in our programme of language visits abroad.
Germany
For the last five years we have taken part in a reciprocal exchange programme with our partner school near Aachen in Germany. Each English pupil is paired with a German girl of her own age. English pupils attend lessons at the school in Germany for one morning, visit the Christmas market in Aachen and spend a long weekend with their pen friend’s family.
France
A residential visit to the Château de la Baudonnière in Normandy takes place on a yearly basis. This is a French language immersion Centre and pupils learn through participating in different activities including, for example, cooking, fencing or archery. Pupils are divided into groups according to their level and French is the language of instruction.
