Swine Flu Information
Swine Flu Information
A document issued by the DCSF ‘Information for parents on planning for a human influenza pandemic’ can be found by following the link www.teachernet.gov.uk/humanflupandemic.
The World Health Organisation has increased its influenza pandemic alert level to 6. This means that there is now evidence of increased and sustained human-to-human transmission of the swine flu virus across a number of global regions.
The guidance is the same for any type of pandemic flu, the principles behind prevention are valid whether it be swine, avian or ‘ordinary’ flu. Should the current outbreak of swine flu escalate we will of course keep you informed with any further advice. If you need a hard copy of the information or have any questions or concerns about this matter, please do not hesitate to contact school.
As you will be aware from the local press schools in the region have confirmed cases of Swine Flu, however, the advice to schools at the moment is to remain open and continue normal good practice for the control of any type of pandemic flu. Any child who may have ‘flu’ should stay at home and medical advice should be sought. We would be grateful if parents could keep the school informed of any concerns regarding their children.
The School Holidays
The advice from the DCSF is that school holiday activities for children and young people should continue as normal but parents and the organisers should remain alert. Any child presenting flu-like symptoms should return home as soon as possible, contact - but not visit - their GP and seek treatment.
Should any further information become available from the DCSF we will obviously alert you.
